Senior Lawyer - Planning & Highways

Cornwall Council is looking for a permanent Senior Planning and Highways Lawyer to join its Planning and Highways Legal Team. The Team supports a variety of clients in an interesting range of projects that reflects Cornwall’s status as a large unitary authority and the successful applicant will have a critical role in the Team. Although the Team is based at New County Hall, Truro, the role offers hybrid and flexible working in terms of both location and hours.

The successful candidate will demonstrate senior level experience working as a planning or highways lawyer and evidence their ability to handle complex planning or highways matters. Candidates with a proven track record in either discipline are encouraged to apply.

The responsibilities of the role will include:

– Dealing with a caseload of complex Planning Agreements;
– Reviewing Reports and advising Members and Officers at Planning Committee Meetings;
– Offering legal advice with respect to a variety of Planning and/or Highways- related matters (including Rights of Way and Drainage) and helping to bring a practical approach to problem solving.
