Lord Chancellor defends Government record on legal aid during Justice questions

‘Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice faced criticism from Opposition MPs on the government’s changes to the legal aid system during Justice oral questions. Responding to a question from Sharon Hodgson MP, Mr Grayling said, ‘The Transforming Legal Aid programme that is currently being implemented is designed to save an extra £215 million per year. There are no current plans for further changes to funding levels beyond this programme, but the financial pressure to balance the books remains.’
